September 2023 Quarterly Meeting
The September 2023 Quarterly meeting for the Benton County Historical Society was a huge success! For those that missed it, Scott Davis presented the process for creating Oral Histories of long time residents of Benton County. He demonstrated several videos he had created from many local residents of Benton County.
The event was hosted by the Decatur Historical Commission at the Decatur Depot Museum located at 249 Main St. in Decatur, Arkansas 72722.

The Decatur Depot Museum is now open to the public every Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. from May to September and by appointment through the city of Decatur clerk's office at

BCHS Treasure Hunt
Please join us on this Family-friendly Fun Day to explore our city landmarks and search for clues to the lost treasure of Bentonville.
Discover the rich history of our community as you visit each of the locations on the treasure map and decode the clues provided at each location.

The Treasure Hunt takes approximately 90 minutes to complete and starts on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM and ends at 4:30 PM.
Tickets can be purchased during open office hours or on the day of the event at the Benton County Historical Society's office located at 306 NW 2nd St. in Bentonville.
Tickets are $10 per each child under 10, $25 per each adult, and $75 for a team of 4 to 8 people.

Please join us Sunday, December 8th as we salute Fred Coffee. Fred, our BCHS Treasurer for the last ten years, has announced his retirement from the Board of Directors. Let’s give him a good send off.
The meeting will be held in Hine’s Hall at the United Methodist Church – across the street from the Historical Society. The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m.
We have a very special program planned. Remember the wonderful covers of the “Saturday Evening Post”? Norman Rockwell depicted everyday happenings in the family as well as events happening in the world. Johnny Haney will present a short history of Norman Rockwell and the story behind what he called his greatest works – the Four Freedoms and the stories behind five other paintings including Rosie the Riveter.
Johnny served 9 years as a trustee for the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He is very active in our community and has served on many of the city’s boards. He has a 40 year retail background.
Please join us to wish Fred Coffee a hardy farewell and join us for the great program.

Pea Ridge National Military Park Announces 2025 Battle Anniversary Event
The National Park Service invites the public to Pea Ridge National Military Park on Saturday, March 8, from 9:45 AM to 3:15 PM to attend programs commemorating the 163rd anniversary of the Battle of Pea Ridge.
The Battle of Pea Ridge was fought on March 7-8, 1862, by over 23,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. It was the largest battle fought west of the Mississippi River and was a major turning point, helping Union forces maintain physical and political control of the state of Missouri.
Visitors are invited to experience programs presented by staff and volunteers as they share accounts of what happened during the battle. Attendees will hear the crash of musketry and the roar of cannon and see how these weapons were used.
Volunteer living historians will be giving programs at Tour Stop Four, Leetown Battlefield, and Tour Stop Eight, Elkhorn Tavern, while others will be portraying a cannon detachment at the Visitor Center.

All program times and locations are subject to change. There are no entrance fees to Pea Ridge National Military Park. Water, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
